Witnessing Renewal - Letters from the Founder of Restoration Place Counseling

January/February 2010

January 23rd, 2010 by Cindy - No Responses

I was thinking recently how I used to consider January a “down month”… you know, that quiet lull after the holidays where everything seems to move at a slower pace and is even somewhat boring. Hmmph! Without a doubt, that was purely delusional thinking! After enjoying a few days off, the Board and I have hit the ground running. Two incredible women have joined our team; we have begun the official search for a part-time counselor (yea!), and we are working busily on wrapping up all the details for the upcoming fundraising event, less than 60 days away!

If you have received these letters for very long, I’m sure it would come as no surprise to you that I find myself, as usual, stretched way beyond the limits of my abilities and comfort zone. However, just the other day, God graciously brought to mind a Scripture I learned about six years ago during the final year of my masters program: “To this end I labor, struggling with all His [Christ’s] energy, which so powerfully works in me” (Colossians 1:29). It was such a sweet reminder that the work He’s called me to will never be achieved in my own strength. We can be so tempted to think that “if it’s of God,” then surely it will be an easy and smooth ride. However, when He has called us to a work, it is often (if not always) way beyond the natural realm of our abilities.

Just between you and me, where I feel that my abilities are most stretched is actually in the counseling office. I realize this is probably not a secret I should tell on myself. I mean, asking people to financially support your ministry and then admitting that most days you feel clueless is not the best business plan! But, seriously, as I sit with the most precious women I’ve ever met and listen to the stories of their broken hearts and lives, I am fully aware of my own inadequacies and brokenness. So when I hear from a client how her experience in counseling has been healing and how the Lord has allowed me to be an agent of His grace, all I can do is praise Him, because I know that it was His counsel at work, and not my own. I would like to share the story of one such client. I hope her story will bless you as much as it did me:

Last year I found myself involved in a long-standing conflict at my workplace due to relationship issues I had both at home and in the office. It had resulted in a deep depression that had not responded in 8 months of treatment by medication alone. When a friend suggested I see Cindy Mondello at Restoration Place Ministries, I was reluctant until I saw on the website that her specialty is women who have a variety of problems, including depression and self-esteem issues. That was certainly me.

While I would consider myself a mature Christian with “a head knowledge” of my identity in Christ, messages from old life circumstances have prevented me from truly living out of that place. In just three months, Cindy has helped me expose the root relational problem in the conflict I had and then helped me connect it with some unresolved issues from my past. My depression is finally lifting. Cindy has walked with me through this situation with godly wisdom, great compassion and keen insight. Through resources she has suggested and with her kind support during our sessions, God is continuing to heal me and grow me in my ability to truly live as the Beloved Daughter of the King.  I am indebted to Restoration Place Ministries and Cindy for her healing presence in a very difficult season of my life.

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Please pray for wisdom as we interview candidates for a part-time counselor position.
  • Pray for our fundraiser: Restoration Runway: Dignity by Design. Please pray our volunteers and committee members, for God’s blessing and favor over ticket sales and fundraising, and for the event to be most successful in the glory it brings to God’s Name.
  • Please continue to pray for wisdom for the Board of Directors and for Cindy. As always, please pray for the clients we serve.

NEW BOARD MEMBER: Kathy McClay

Kathy McClay comes to the board of directors with business and management skills, gifts in discernment and interpersonal skills, and a passion to see people emotionally healed through the power of Christ In their lives. Kathy has been retired for two years from Family Christian Stores, where she served as store manager for five years. For the past 10 years, she has led a weekly SALTS group (called Journey) at Westover church, helping women to deal with the effects of childhood sexual abuse. Kathy is married to Doug and they have one son, Jonathan, who is 24 years old.

NEW BOARD MEMBER: Neisha Yates

Neisha Yates recently relocated to Greensboro with her husband Joshua. Originally from Kentucky, Neisha has lived in Georgia and New Orleans. She recently completed her Master of Christian Education degree at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. Neisha is gifted in event planning, fundraising and communication; however, her greatest assets are surely her passion for Jesus and lots of energy! Neisha hopes to begin a hospital chaplain residency in the fall.
