Witnessing Renewal - Letters from the Founder of Restoration Place Counseling

Eating Disorders

June 4th, 2009 by Cindy - No Responses

It’s hard to believe that summer is just around the corner! It seemed like it was months away when I registered to attend a workshop in June on eating disorders—and now it’s less than a week before I’ll participate in the continuing education conference hosted by Remuda Ranch, one of the leading inpatient programs for those suffering from eating disorders and related issues. The conference, “Hungry for Hope: Restoring Identity”, is designed to equip counselors in the areas of body image and disordered eating with a focus on the role of identity in recovery. I am grateful for this opportunity… read more

If _______, then _______….

“They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.” (Isaiah 61:4) Do you know what the most often stated command in Scripture is? I asked several people this question over the past few weeks and the answers I received included, “Love God,” “Love your neighbor,” “Don’t sin,” and a few other various responses. Yet, with the current economic crisis dominating the headlines, the thought of requesting financial support for Restoration Place has become just a bit intimidating. I confess that I’ve had more than one conversation with God on this matter, reminding him that living on such… read more

Running with Perseverance

“…and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” (Hebrews 12:1b) I did something last month that I said I’d never do. I ran my very first half marathon. Though I’ve been a runner for about eight years, entering races has never seemed even remotely desirable. However, at some point this spring, during a momentary lapse of sanity, I agreed to run the Virginia Beach Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon. (I tell you, it was indeed insanity because who in her right mind would agree to run a race at the beach in August?!) Anyway, as the… read more

Somewhere In the Middle

May 1st, 2008 by Cindy - No Responses

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11 Somewhere in the middle… I realize that this, the third newsletter of 2008, will also be the third newsletter for which I have based my commentary on a song. I have struggled with trying to come up with some other thought or concept to wrap my words around, but in so doing, have been unsuccessful. You see, although I am not in any way musically inclined (i.e., the… read more
